Choctaw Amateur Radio Club Minutes from May 19, 2008 Members Present: Richard Edwards KA5ALO Richard Johnson WA5EOD Sam Roe KB7QQQ Bill Tarkington K3YC CORA Officer/Treasurer Don McDown N5ENQ CORA Director Ron Earnest W5RGT Bill Wilburn N5NUK CARC Secretary CORA Officer/President The meeting was called to order at 7:06pm and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the US Flag. The Secretary Bill N5NUK in lieu of the President and Vice President being absent conducted the meeting. Previous Minutes: The minutes from the April meeting were reviewed but not approved. Treasurer’s Report: Due to the Treasurer being absent, there was no Treasurer’s Report. OLD BUSINESS: Repeater Report: Ron W5RGT raised the issue regarding what to do with old repeater equipment since the new repeater is in place, and what to do with the old tube-type repeater currently sitting outside in a rain protected cabinet. Bill N5NUK suggested taking the equipment to Ham Holiday and placing it for sale with the resulting funds going to the club treasury. Richard WA5EOD made a motion to proceed with Bill N5NUK’s suggestion. Don N5ENQ proposed tabling the idea until a later meeting when more members might be present. It was agreed to table the idea. The door to the building has warped and an outside weather resistant type is needed. Don N5ENQ suggested going to one of the box stores and asking the management for a price break since the ham community provides a public service such as weather spotting. Ron W5RGT suggested everyone do a little price shopping. Club Inventory: This issue was tabled due to the President’s absence. NEW BUSINESS: Field Day 2008: Bill N9SQV was going to check on a local location but he was not present to report on that. Don N5ENQ made the point that due to high gas prices, there may not be many willing to travel far to participate in Field Day. A show of hands revealed virtually no interest, although Don mentioned the possibility of CARC members attending the MORI/OCAPA/QCWA event at Crossroads Mall. CORA Report: Ham Holiday is on track. There’s a vendor in the Piedmont area that may attend to embroider hats. Pre-registration flyers are in the mail; there’s no change in prices. Don N5ENQ has tickets on hand. Club Call Sign: Richard KA5ALO raised a question regarding the status of the club call sign. Dave WD5G was not present to report on it. Crossband Repeater: Richard KA5ALO brought the crossband repeater radio to pass on to someone else. Don N5ENQ took it. There was no other business. The meeting was adjourned at 7:46pm.
