Choctaw Amateur Radio Club Minutes from October 15, 2007 Meeting opened with Pledge of Allegiance and was called to order by C W6NNH. Weilbrenner W6NNH Bill Williams K5JVD Walt Diehl KA3AMK Larry Brewer K5VVD There was no sick report. There was no Secretary’s Report, although there was some discussion regarding reverting the Constitution back to a previous form regarding family membership. Treasurer’s Report: Larry K5VVD reported there was about $1,181 in the bank plus about $100 in membership dues, which were deposited. Repeater Report: There was much discussion about whether it would be better to replace the repeater with a used repeater for a ballpark price of $400 and with a CW ID and autopatch for approximately another $200. The alternative would be a new one for about $1200. The question of going with a D-Star system was also raised. Discussion on this topic included: * If the digital system can be used/interfaced with current analog systems * If there are any other clubs in the metro area that are/would be interested in a joint system * Possibility of generating new/renewed interest of operators not currently on air * Some technical details of the workings of a digital system * Which brands are compatible to the D-Star system * The cost of a digital repeater and radios * Using CORA as a vehicle to touch base with other metro clubs An exploratory committee for this issue consisting of Dave WD5G, Don N5ENQ, and Duane KA5WRG was formed. Ron W5RGT will do research regarding a new repeater. Nominating Committee: Don N5ENQ reported the following: * Dave Downing WD5G would accept the position of President * Bill Crossland N9SQV would accept the position of Vice President * Bill Wilburn N5NUK would accept the position of Secretary * Larry Brewer K5VVD would continue as Treasurer There were no other nominations for any office positions and there was no discussion. A motion was made and seconded to accept the slate by acclimation. The motion passed unanimously. Christmas Dinner: Date set for Saturday December 15, 2007 at 6:30pm at the Choctaw Creek Grill in the clubhouse at the Choctaw Golf Course. Club website: Chuck KC5EZS will take over the website from Duane. Club Constitution: A motion was made and seconded at the September meeting to repeal the definition of a Family Membership and revert the Constitution back to its previous version. Club members will be notified of this action and a vote will be taken at the November meeting. November Technical Meeting: Date set for November 1. Don N5ENQ will have a presentation on D-Star. The next meeting date was set for November 19. A motion to adjourn was made and seconded. Meeting adjourned.
