Choctaw Amateur Radio Club Minutes from July 21, 2008 Members Present: Bill Wilburn N5NUK CARC Secretary, CORA Officer/President Dave Downing WD5G CARC President Richard Johnson WA5EOD Bill Tarkington K3YC CORA Officer/Treasurer Ron Earnest W5RGT Don Clark KB5KWV Don McDown N5ENQ CORA Director Bill Crossland N9SQV CARC Vice President Walt Diehl KA3AMK Larry Brewer K5VVD CARC Treasurer Brian Youngblood KD5WFY David Huntz NH6SM Doug Snowden N4IJ Visitor: Chuck Kanach KC5EZS The meeting opened at 7:02 with the Pledge of Allegiance. Previous Minutes: Minutes from the May 19 and June 16 meeting were approved although the May 19 minutes are for informational purposes only and are a record of what was discussed since there was no quorum present to conduct business. Treasurer’s Report: Larry K5VVD gave the Treasurer’s Report and because the report is subject to audit, there’s no need to accept it. OLD BUSINESS: Repeater Report: Brian KD5WFY received a fan from Ron W5RGT to install in order to keep the equipment cooler. He reports it gets too hot to even touch. A question was raised regarding replacement of the door to the building. A metal clad type would be preferable, size needed is 30 inches. Suggestions for acquiring one included checking out a used equipment outlet, the home improvement centers, or possibly having one donated. A question was also raised regarding what to do with the old tube-type repeater along with the old repeater. Dave WD5G suggested putting it all on Craig’s List or Ebay “as is”. Club Inventory: Dave WD5G has attempted to contact C W6NNH via phone calls and emails about what he has in storage. C has not yet returned any messages. Dave N3CI doesn’t have anything either. Larry K5VVD has the old Tex-Net equipment and needs to have it removed. Dave WD5G suggested trying to sell it on Ebay or taking it to the Gainesville hamfest August 23rd. Chuck KC5EZS suggested also taking it to the Ardmore (formerly Texhoma) hamfest in October. Ron W5RGT reported having a climbing belt and Don N5ENQ has a climbing harness. There is also a Ringo Ranger antenna and RG213 coax currently mounted on the roof of the Vo-Tech building. NEW BUSINESS: Tech Meeting: Dave WD5G noted the room location at the Vo-Tech for the Tech Meeting is always subject to change. Tech Meetings are the first Thursday of the month. Doug N4IJ had a presentation on loop antennas for the July Tech Meeting. Doug has put all the information about small loops on CD for those interested. One of these antennas was use on Mt. Scott for Field Day with great success. Some people are not getting the word about Tech Meeting due to changing email addresses, not hearing it on the repeater, or from a friend. Web Site Email: Chuck KC5EZS reported not knowing how to access the admin email address for the website and how to change the re-direct for email. Because of this, the CARC has not heard back from the Ham-Com folks regarding the banner which was posted on the CARC website promoting Ham-Com. An investigation into this matter is in order. Dave stated he will talk to Duane. Saturday Morning Breakfast: CORA Report: Bill N5NUK gave a brief summary of Ham Holiday and announced the date for the final regular CORA meeting as August 2. Other: Dave WD5G mentioned the possibility of a picnic event once the weather cools off a bit. The meeting was adjourned at 7:54pm.
